of Srinagar. The state of Srinagar embodies the poetry of

Mughal Garden
Mughal
Gardens which have truly changed the face of the Mughal Empire
is one of the most popular and the most visited tourist
attractions of Srinagar. During their rule, the Mughals began
to build several types of gardens in Persian architecture, and
the combination of these gardens is referred to as the Mughal
Gardens. The natural beauty of the place filled with lush
green grass and the scented flowers is a stress-buster and
pleasing to the eyes. The tourists who come here take long
strolls in the garden or sit and admire the beauty of the
place.
The Mughal Gardens in Srinagar comprise of Nishat Bagh,
Shalimar Bagh, Chashme Shahi, Pari Mahal, Achabal and Verinag
Garden. The grandeur of the gardens is dedicated to Emperor
Jahangir who always had an undying love for Kashmir. Jahangir
was responsible for the selection of the site and planning the
requirements of the paradise gardens. It is always a lot of
fun in exploring the history behind these gardens. They follow
a Persian style of architecture and have been influenced by
the Persian gardens. Some typical features of Mughal Gardens
which are a treat for its visitors include canals, pools and
fountains.
Dal Lake Lake
Dal Lake, Srinagar Overview The jewel of Srinagar, the Dal
lake is synonymous to a visit to Srinagar and almost a visual
definition of the town. Spread over 26 square kilometres, it
is the most photogenic stretch of paradise on earth and
undoubtedly also the most sought after attraction. It is
situated in the midst of beautiful lush green mountains and is
the most pristine view of nature in all its glory.
Facilities such as shikara boat rides, house boats and lake
markets make this place a favourite among tourists. Srinagar
has always been a pleasant place to visit in summer,
therefore, making it one of the favourite places the Mughals
and the Britishers liked to go during summer. One of its main
attractions was the Dal Lake which was not left unnoticed.
The Dal lake consists of four main char chinars in the middle
of the lake which is a means of its recognition. The Mughals
saw the potential in the Dal lake and surrounded it with
beautiful gardens and pavilions and also built the Shalimar
and Nilshad Gardens exactly at a place where the beautiful
outstretched lake can be seen in all its glory. The Britishers
brought forward the concept of boat houses in the Dal Lake,
which further promoted tourism to the lake. A tourist hub, one
should not miss the pristine beauty of Dal Lake.
Nigeen Lake
Nigeen Lake Located Srinagar City, Popularly known as the
'"Jewel in the Ring", it is one of the impressive lakes in
east Srinagar. The lake with its deep blue waters is separated
from the Dal Lake by a thin causeway and is an exciting
tourist spot with number of houseboats dwindling in the calm
waters.
Nigeen Lake is a perfect place to go for swimming as it is
less crowded and deeper. Hazratbal Mosque is a close by
attraction to visit. NigeenLake in Srinagar is a deep blue
water offshoot lake of Dal Lake that is interconnected by a
thin causeway.
The lake is located to the east of the city of Srinagar, at
the foothill of the Zabarwan Mountain.
Hazratbal Shrine:
Situated opposite the Nishat Bagh on the banks of Dal Lake,
the Hazratbal Shrine houses the Moi-e-Muqqadus (preserved
sacred hair) of Prophet Mohammad. It is one of the most
popular shrines in Srinagar, revered by Hindus as well as
Muslims.
The Shankaracharya Hill
The Shankaracharya Hill on the south and Hari Parbat on
the west enclose the Nigeen Lake offers breathtaking views to
the visitors. It is flanked by beautiful willow and poplar
trees. Good numbers of houseboats and shikaras can be seen in
Nigeen Lake where tourists enjoy their peaceful vacations in
Srinagar. Unlike Dal Lake, Nigeen Lake is a calm, serene and
peaceful getaway for those who want to spend holiday in sheer
nature. Apart from houseboat staying and shikara ride,
tourists can also enjoy water skiing, motor rides and sailing
over there.
Geography of Srinagar
The weather of Srinagar may be generally described as alpine.
The city has mild summers during the months of April-June, and
cold winters of November-February. The city generally gets
heavy snowfall from December to February.
The city is located on both the sides of the river Jhelum,
which is called Vyath in Kashmir. The river passes through the
city and meandering through the valley, moves onward and
deepens in the Wular Lake The city is famous for its nine old
bridges, connecting the two parts of the city.
